RFID Asset Tracking
Tagged RFID Assets In Library
RFID Discovery - Tracking Medical Equipment
Hospitals misplace or loose valuable medical equipment annually, wasting staff and patient time and incurring replacement and rental charges causing safety and governance problems.
Lack of visibility of mobile assets costs the Healthcare Sector miliions of pounds every year.
RFID Discovery PDA Solution
PDA Syncing with the Main Computer
Harland Simon has developed a PDA system using Active RFID tags to track equipment such as infusion devices, bladder scanners and other equipment in a medical environment.
As a Medical Devices Librarian walks the wards in the hospital they are alerted to the whereabouts of tagged medical equipment through a handheld PDA fitted with compatible reader and software.
The PDA stores the real-time location of tagged equipment and when the Medical Devices librarian returns to the department they dock the PDA, which updates the main equipment inventory database.
Benefits extend beyond that of saving time.
Finding wheelchairs and knowing where your empty beds are increases asset visibility and leads to improved utilisation.
This in turn can lead to greater efficiency levels and ultimately significant steps can be achieved in the overall operation and financial performance of an acute hospital.

Passive RFID - Fixed and Mobile RFID
RFID Passive Tag
RFID Heavy Duty Passive Tag
Depending on mobility, RFID readers are classified into two different types: fixed RFID and mobile RFID.
If the reader reads tags in a stationary position, it is called fixed RFID.
These fixed readers set up specific interrogation zones and create a "bubble" of RF energy that can be tightly controlled if the physics is well engineered. This allows a very definitive reading area for when tags go in and out of the interrogation zone.
On the other hand, if the reader is mobile when the reader reads tags, it is called mobile RFID. Mobile readers include hand-held’s, carts and vehicle mounted RFID readers.
A range of passive tags are available depending on the application.
