Arizona Republic fine tune their production with Harland
Simon.
21st August 2006
Following
on from successful implementation, PRIMA Esprit, now drives
all Arizona Republic’s press set-ups from a single platform
by one individual;
creating press layouts across both printing facilities, and
providing plate and cylinder information for their output
systems. This allows Arizona to manage their output waste,
while still having the
ability
to understand the press configurations and drive plates
automatically to specific press plants, presses, and even
down to the individual cylinder.
Bill
Hack,
The Arizona Republic’s Director of System Services
wanted to
further fine-tune his process, allowing the operation to
generate ‘non-standard’ runs, while still taking advantage
of the 3rd party integration. Earlier this year
Harland Simon implemented PRIMA Impositioning from it’s
suite of PRIMA MS, to allow Arizona to modify the imposition
generated by Esprit, while still allowing the driving of
their press set-ups from a single location and output plate
locations to Rockwell Press Controls and ProImage workflow.
Bill Hack commented, “We now are capable of driving our
output system with XML page plans created from information
derived from PRIMA Esprit. Pages know
where to go, based on what product is defined from
the press jobs established in ESPRIT, allowing us to BARCODE
all plates and drop them into trays on our CTP units. 100%
of our page flows are automated from the NEWSROOM to the
press plant’s trays.”
John Staiano, Harland Simon Senior Vice President, further
commented, “It is not always possible to install all our
software solutions in one location, customers want to keep
the systems they already have and improve on the overall
process and integration. This is another example of how
Harland Simon is ‘plugging the gaps’ left by older
implemented systems”.
