| Creo
and Harland Simon to Develop Efficient Newspaper Production Solution
June 2003
NEXPO,
Las Vegas, NV -- (June 16, 2003) – Creo Inc. (NASDAQ:
CREO; TSX: CRE) is pleased to announce that the Creo newspaper
prepress solution group is working with Harland Simon, the
UK manufacturer of newspaper press controls. Harland Simon
has expertise in press management and production workflows
and develops automation and production management software
for the printing industry.
Harland Simon will
develop press control interfaces that communicate with Prinergy®
Newsrun software, the Creo application for newspaper edition
planning. The integration allows ink key settings to be communicated
to the press control system, which sets the ink keys on the
press. The benefits of this integration include reduced paper
and ink waste.

John Staiano,
Peter Cox and Jon Bracken
"We're very
happy to be working with a leading company that will deliver
tremendous efficiency benefits to our customers," says
Jon Bracken, Creo product manager. Harland Simon will enhance
the automation of creating a newspaper edition in Prinergy
Newsrun. Integrating the Harland Simon solution will enable Creo
Prinergy Newsrun users to reduce make-ready time by using
accurate ink key settings.
“This is
our first partnership with a prepress company and we’re
looking forward to enhancing an already excellent solution
with Creo,” says Harland Simons' spokesperson.
The Creo Prinergy
Newsrun application has been designed for the unique needs
of newspapers. It imposes broadsheet pages for single- and
double-width presses, and tabloid pages into pairs or quads,
adding all required crop marks, page numbers, barcodes, folios
and other plate furniture in an automated process that passes
the imposed Job Tickets and Advanced Production Automation
(APA) files to the workflow system. The edition planning and
scheduling features of Prinergy Newsrun monitor the pages
as they are input and output, and manage multiple publications
or editions simultaneously.
The Creo
digital prepress solution for newspapers is designed to increase
efficiency, improve quality and dramatically reduce costs.
The solution comprises the Trendsetter® NEWS computer-to-plate
platesetter, the Prinergy® workflow management system,
and the Prinergy Newsrun application. See the Creo newspaper
solution in booth #1237 from June 16-19 at NEXPO 2003. Harland
Simon is also at NEXPO on booth #405.
