HS supply new Press Controls and Management System to News &
Media, Newry.
22nd February 2007
Following the successful project at Independent News & Media’s
Belfast Telegraph plant Harland Simon were selected as the
suppliers for the Press Controls and Management System for their
prestigious new plant in Newry. The installation is the debut of
Goss’s innovative FPS press system which has caused so much
interest within the print industry and it is a significant
achievement that the first phase of this revolutionary system
has gone into production exactly on schedule. Phase 1 comprises
one folder and three coldset towers. Phase 2, which will add a
second folder and two heatset towers is scheduled to go live in
August.
Harland Simon has supplied their complete digital
presetting solution linked to the CTP system and the latest
versions of their Prima Management System and control consoles.
Highlights of the latest version of the Management System are
user friendly, web based production reporting utilizing the
latest Microsoft SQL 2005 Reporting Services. The Prima 6000
control console touch screens have been completely redesigned
for even faster operation with excellent graphic presentation
and incorporate all the new features of the FPS.
Although firmly based upon the systems for a number of
Colorliner installations the many new features of the FPS system
have required significant joint development between the
companies to maximise their effectiveness. These include special
impositioning tools, fast edition change and semi-automatic
plate loading. In addition the Harland Simon consoles include
integration of the QTI Multicam cut off and register control
systems and the Baldwin/Jimek blanket washing system.
Significantly the Newry project includes interesting
developments in the field of semi-commercial operation with
Phase 2 including two towers which can run either 5 wide
newspaper coldset or commercial size heatset webs and a quarter
folder. These options require some advanced features in the
Management System and console design.
Harland Simon is already working on the systems for the second
FPS project to be installed at Hoekstra Boom in the Netherlands.
