| Harland
Simon carried out RFID test at domestic paper mill.
July
2005
On
Thursday 6th of July 2005 Harland Simon in conjunction with
EGS carried out extensive site trials with the new low cost
Power Paper RFID tags.
The
tests were carried out in a methodical manner and included
placing the tags inside wound and unwound cores (straw) at
varying depths. These tests proved the tags could be read
with some limitations. Tests were also carried out with a
tag manually taped to the external surface of a core which
was then placed into the winder and had paper wound on. This
test proved the tag would not be destroyed by the winding
process, however final tests on condition of paper at the
core is still to be reported by the paper mill. The tag mounted
on the external of the core performed very well and provided
simple and repeatable sensing.
A Harland Simon spokesperson commented “being
party to these tests was very exciting as their
successful completion is a major step to bringing RFID
technology from theory into practice
for the paper and publishing industries. We could not have
hoped for better results than this and we will be moving to
full supply chain trials in the very near future. I would
like to thank all those participating in the tests, particularly
EGS for making these exciting developments possible”.
