Overview
PRIMA PlantManager is a homogenous
solution designed to take care of all the production and
management requirements of a modern newspaper print facility. It
achieves this through the seamless integration of the Harland
Simon PRIMA modules and
native site systems such as CTP and
mailroom equipment. The real benefit of implementing the PRIMA
PlantManager is the eradication of complex workflows leading to
reduced waste and improved quality. The backbone of the system
is a robust global database, which has been implemented in
numerous newspaper production facilities around the world. The
PRIMA PlantManager builds on this backbone with the addition of
standard modules such as RIPSet, RTS and Esprit. Harland Simon
fully understand the complex issues involved with interfaces and
have over 25 years of experience in designing and implementing
interfaces throughout the newspaper production process,
ensuring that PRIMA PlantManager is
the most secure way to run your newspaper production facility
with the minimum amount of people and the maximum amount of
profit.
The PRIMA PlantManager System
includes:
Item
1 - PRIMA Management System
The
PRIMA Management System will come fully integrated into your
press controls system. Thus allowing, the sending of data, e.g.
jobs, impositions etc. and the capture of events like speed,
events, stop reasons and copy counts.
Item 2 - PRIMA Esprit
The PRIMA Esprit system is an auto-impositioning
tool, which is pre-configured with your press details and can
then generate the best imposition, based upon your preferred
production methods, for the particular product that you want to
print.
Item 3 - PRIMA RIPSet
PRIMA RIPSet interfaces directly with
the front-end RIP network, to derive accurate preset values for
presetting the inking system on the press. Providing accurate
and repeatable raw data for ink presetting, giving a clear,
concise plate tracking overview and instantly providing
on-screen content and color proofs.
Item 4 - PRIMA Roll Tracking System
The PRIMA Roll Tracking System
consists of a sophisticated suite of modules designed to manage
your paper stock from the time paper is ordered until newspapers
leave your site. It gives the Production Director the tools he
needs to assess paper stocks and the quality provided by his
suppliers and it gives the Financial Director the figures he
needs for calculating production costs.
Item 5 - PRIMA Mailroom Manager
The Mailroom Management System is
designed for the collection of data automatically from sensors,
hardware devices and third party systems located throughout the
plant and manually entered by the operator. It includes the
counting and categorizing of copies at designated points in the
manufacturing and distribution process.
Item 6 - CtP System Interface
Product and scheduling data is sent to
CtP Systems in order to facilitate improved co-ordination in the
plate making area.
Item 7 - BDS/Cart System
The Cart Tracking System makes use of
RFID technology and uses portals and software interfaces to
track carts and their contents around the production process.
Item 8 - AGV/ARLS Interface
Newsprint roll requirement data is
communicated to the roll handling system and the automatic roll
loaders (ARLs) to provide efficient, accurate roll delivery and
inventory control. For a given press run, the PlantManager
System sends roll requirements for each position. Each press
unit is now programmed to automatically receive a roll of
specific type, size and wind direction.
Item 9 - Circulation System
Interface
The circulation system contains
information about what trips are required, and what the product
requirements are for each trip. PRIMA PlantManager will accept a
text file from the circulation system to define the production
requirements. This alleviates the need for duplicate entry of
trip information.
Item 10 - Press Controls Interface
(if not Harland Simon)
The interface will include the
transmission to the press control system of all planning,
imposition and presetting data for the efficient operation of
the presses. It will also accept real time running data to
provide monitoring during production and record all significant
events for the production of comprehensive reports.
