Configurable
A penalties system allows the user to superimpose
preferences on the selection of the best imposition. Using
the facility to adjust the penalties ColorWare
can be told to avoid using a certain configuration or to prefer
one scenario to another. Each user and each site can tailor
ColorWare to accommodate individual preferences, and suit
preferred methods of working.

Additional Rating
Within ColorWare an additional set of penalties, called rating,
can be set to future restrict the outcome of color booking
within a product. E.g. Limit the number of angles bars an
imposition will have to use to satisfy color requirements.
What Happens if Part of the Press is Unserviceable?
Planned maintenance, faults during a production run etc., will
mean that the operator will need to change the imposition to
avoid using the unserviceable parts of the press. By simply
clicking on the press mimic, ColorWare is told to disregard
this part of the press. The system will regenerate its color
position availability. The
example below shows a rollstand and an angle bar have been
taken out of service.

Specific Web Path Penalties
The user is also able to set specific penalties for using
a particular web. In addition, the user can set penalties
for various features of a web path. For example, he might
choose to penalize a situation in which a half roll was run
through a 4-high tower or disable a web completely.
Setting taken from
Esprit
All the above settings can be set up individually or can be
taken from Esprit.
ColorWare in its Client/Server
Configuration
Although ColorWare can run on a single PC, it is sometimes
desirable to adopt a client/server configuration. This might
be the case for two reasons
ColorWare is used by more
than one operator who need to share data between them such
as penalty sets and product definitions
A powerful server can be
used to perform the imposition generations, meaning that
the clients can be lower specification PCs and still achieve
good response times.
You wish to integrate a
3rd Party Layout tool into ColorWare.
Integration with PRIMA
MS
Customers who have the PRIMA
MS press management system can upload product
specifications from the MS. ColorWare can also be requested
to search the MS database for an imposition that has previously
been run that matches the product breakdown and color requirements.
This function/option can be requested to run before dynamically
searching for a solution, or instead of carrying out the search.
Linking ColorWare to
3rd Party layout Tools
PRIMA ColorWare is an
editorial and advertising tool designed to optimize the use
of color in a product. It is available as a standalone PC
package or its core algorithms can be used as the back
end of a third party product planning system.
If we consider
the typical product planning system, it has a catalogue of
possible product layouts that are available to the newspaper
planner. These layouts are pre-configured into the planning
system and almost certainly represent a very much restricted
selection compared to the actual capabilities of the press.
ColorWare replaces
the product catalogue with a dynamic, product-optimizing algorithm,
using the full capabilities of the press. Not only that, but
ColorWare is also able to take account of unserviceable parts
of the press and even the way in which the production manager
likes to run his press.
