| Using
Esprit with More than One Press Configuration
Many users will have more than one press configuration to
deal with either because the presses on their press hall are
not identical or, perhaps, because they are operating across
more than one printing facility. For example, a national title
might be printed at a number of locations, each with very
different press capabilities.
Suppose Esprit
were being used in a global newspapers head office to
optimize production across a number of international printing
facilities. Esprit would be configured to know the press capabilities
and running preferences at each facility.
From the list
of configured presses, the user would select the presses he
wished to produce his product on, using the screen below.

Each selected
press would then have its individual options available, as
with the single press example.
Once each press
was set up, generation could begin across all selected presses
simultaneously, with the results being shown on the screen
below.

Once the calculations
are complete, the user is able to see whether his required
product is possible across all of his presses or whether,
perhaps, he has to drop some color on some configurations.
Esprit in its Client/Server
Configuration
Although Esprit can run on a single PC, it is sometimes desirable
to adopt a client/server configuration. This might be the
case for two reasons
Esprit is used by more than
one operator who need to share data between them such as
penalty sets and product definitions
A powerful server can be
used to perform the imposition generations, meaning that
the clients can be lower specification PCs and still achieve
good response times.
Integration with PRIMA
MS
Customers that also have the PRIMA
MS press management system can upload product
specifications from the MS and download generated impositions
to its catalogue.
