The monitoring modules provide clear, concise data showing the progress of production. Using the Intranet modules, this information can be made available around the world to any authorized user with a web browser on the company intranet. In addition, users can dial in from remote locations to check on the production status.

Provided with the system is a suite of reports, providing production management with all they information they need. These reports are also available via the Intranet.

We provide a number of pre-configured reports, and the users can add their own reports to the menu structure using the supplied Crystal Reports package. This provides a very powerful and flexible reporting tool.

Data is stored in an industry standard SQL database and users can access the data using their preferred reporting tool or spreadsheet.

PRIMA.net in the Press Hall and Mail Room
The press operator interacts with PRIMA.net via a large LCD touch screen that can be mounted on the existing control console. The screen enables the user to request job information, input significant press events and monitor production.

Real-time speed and copy counts are displayed on the operator’s screen, which are derived from sensors placed on the press line. Other sensors, such as web break detectors, can also be included in order to provide more detailed production analysis.

PicIt is also possible to see a detailed breakdown of copy counts.

When the press stops, the operator is prompted to enter a stop reason. This can be further annotated if more information about the stop subsequently becomes available.

Data acquisition units are positioned conveniently in the plant to pick up signals from existing sensors such as web break detectors and counters.

PRIMA.net has been designed to operate at multi-site operations, consolidating production information for consistent and accurate reporting.

PRIMA.net in the Roll Store
PRIMA.net maintains a detailed roll inventory, tracks paper consumption per job and also provides information on the performance of rolls from a given supplier. Roll information is taken from the barcodes that are attached to each roll. These provide the system with data on supplier, paper type, weight etc.

Orders for paper can be placed through the Purchase Orders module and POs and manifests can be exchanged with suppliers via the EDI module. Extensive use is made of ‘wizards’ to guide users through common operations, making it easy to learn for all skill levels. When a shipment of rolls arrives on site, the barcodes can be read from the delivery note or can be taken directly from the rolls via a portable hand-held barcode reader.

When a roll is removed from storage and put on the press, its barcode is again read into the system in order to indicate that the roll is now in use. PRIMA.net attributes copies to the roll as they are produced. Once the roll is used it is also possible to log comments about its performance.

Powerful enquiry facilities are provided to track rolls and for aging inventory.
At the end of the run, data comparing actual and predicted paper usage is available and any web breaks that have occurred are logged against the roll. Reports are produced detailing paper consumption for each job. Over a period of time it is possible to see if rolls from a particular supplier are meeting performance targets in terms of web breaks or mileage, for example.
